Pete: Did you change the Excel Services Authentication setting in the Excel connection? It sounds like you've done everything right except set it to "None". Bring up Excel desktop, in the Connections settings (off of the "Data" ribbon). Select the one for the pivot table and then "Properties". Go to "Advanced" and at the bottom is a button for "Excel Service Authentication". You can either set it to "None" in which case the Excel Services unattended account will be used; or you can enter the Secure Store App id directly for the credentials. Give that a try.

Hi Dave and Denny - loved your stuff at SQLPASS in November. I'm just now getting around to testing Sharepoint 2010 and have run into a problem with Excel Pivot tables (against SQL 2005 SSAS) published to sharepoint. I'm able to access them without an issue from the Sharepoint 2010 VM - either from the site or directly from a browser using a URL. I can also get to a published report directly via URL from my local machine (which hosts the VM). I run into a problem when trying to access the URL from any other computer. I get to the report just fine - but I get the 'An error occurred during an attempt to establish a connection to the external data source' when I click on one of the dimensions. The problem has to be security related because a trace on the SQL 2005 SSAS box shows that ANONYMOUS login is being used when anyone other than myself tries to use the report.

Any ideas on this? I have created a key in the secure store and added the resultant ID to the Unattended section.

As always, your insight and help is very much appreciated. Pete
