Recently there have been several asks on the forums about getting more information for installing PowerPivot on a standalone server. Well . . . we have a video produced that addresses how to do this. Besides the installation itself, I also discuss how you go about adding the domain controller role to the server and get everything installed and running. The file is pretty large, so while the Microsoft internal folks struggle with how to get it loaded on Microsoft servers, I figured that I’d upload it to PowerPivotGeek.com and give you guys some early exposure.

(this is a large file 360MB, so depending on your connection, it may take some buffering before it comes up . . .)

Here is the video:
Enjoy!

Thanks for all the info on the installation and we have it successfully up and running. One subject I can’t find any references to: Securing your data connection / sql views etc. We are providing BI services to our customers and would like to secure the views we design in PowerPivot. Our competitors likes stealing our ip because thy don’t understand the ERP dbs the way we do.
I am experimentig with Powerpivot over a Sharepoint standalone server, I have been following the video to have this set, but unfortunately, I am experiencing an issue which prevents me form completing the installation.
When at the NEw Sharepoint Farm Configuration, when typing the user, I receive the error: “the credentials you provided for the farm account are not valid.”
No matter how I do it I always end up with this error. I am logged as the domain admin, and the user I am trying to use is also a member of the domain admin group. Even using administrator as the user or unisg my user accout, I always end up with the error. What should I do? what am I missing?
Ives: Can you please email me (dwickert@microsoft.com) the details.txt log file in the SQL Server shared installation folder? It will help us debug what is happening.
Thanks.
