Instructions for the installation and configuration of Reporting Services in SharePoint Integration Mode

Use this document to install and configure Reporting Services in SharePoint Integrated mode. You can then use Report Builder to create reports using PowerPivot workbooks that you have been published to a PowerPivot Gallery as data sources. After installation, you can design reports by entering the URL of the PowerPivot workbook as the “Server:” in your Report Builder or Report Designer data source. The underlying PowerPivot infrastructure will make the appropriate connection to the embedded PowerPivot database residing within the workbook.

Important: Regardless of your PowerPivot installation (either NEW FARM or EXISTING FARM), perform these steps after you have installed PowerPivot.

a. Navigate to the folder where you downloaded SQL Server 2008 R2, launch setup.exe.

b. Click Installation > New SQL Server Stand-alone installation. Select the default option on each page of the wizard until you reach the Feature Role page. (Select the Enter a product key option but leave the text box blank, and then click Next.)

c. Select SQL Server Feature Installation and click Next.
The Feature Selection page appears.

d. Select ONLY Reporting Services and click Next.

e. Continue through the rest of the Setup wizard and select the default for each option, then click Install.

3. Configure Reporting Services

a. Go to Start > All Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 > Configuration Tools and click Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
The Reporting Services Configuration Connection dialog opens.

b. Specify the server name (Machine Name).

c. Select the Database tab on the left side, and click Change Database.

d. Make sure Create a new Report Server database is selected and click Next.

e. Enter a correct Database Server instance name (i.e, the machine and instance on which you want to host your Report Server database)

f. Enter a database name of your choice, make sure you select SharePoint Integrated Mode as the Report Server Mode and click Next.

g. In the Authentication Type drop down, select Windows Credentials and specify the account that will be used to connect to the Report Server database.

h. On the Summary page, click Next and then click Finish after the configuration wizard completes.

i. Select the Web Service URL tab on the left side and click Apply.

Note: You should see “The URL was successfully reserved”message at the bottom of the page. Important: Do not close this dialog as you will need the information to complete the next step.

4. Integrate Reporting Services with SharePoint

a. Open a command prompt window as administrator, navigate to the location you where you copied the SQL Server 2008 R2 November CTP Reporting Services Add-in for Microsoft SharePoint Technologies 2010 and run rsSharePoint.msi SKIPCA=1.

b. Navigate to your temp folder: “%systemdrive%/users/<username>/appdata/local/temp” and run rsCustomAction.exe /i.

c. Open the SharePoint Central Administration Web site, click General Application Settings on the left, and then select Reporting Services Integration.

d. In the Report Server Web Service URL field, enter the Web Service URL that you specified earlier.

e. Confirm that Windows Authentication is selected, specify the account you want to use, and then click OK.

You should now have Reporting Services configured in SharePoint integration mode on your farm.
